JP Corry are proud to release statistics from our 2021 Corporate Commitment Progress Report. The report details our efforts to effectively manage environmental sustainability by taking action to help protect our planet, to increase engagement and bring help, learning and support to communities through our charitable giving and dedicated partnerships and finally to promote our people, health and diversity through equality, inclusion and wellbeing initiatives.
The report also demonstrates JP Corry’s commitment to investing in its employees and to operate responsibly. Here are some highlights from this year’s Corporate Commitment Report:
We have had a 17% total reduction in Scope One and Scope Two greenhouse gas emissions since 2019. We can attribute this to various projects that have been rolled out across the business, alongside our increased utilisation of digital solutions and water reduction measures, we have installed energy efficient LED lighting across our branch network, we have commenced with our commitment to switch the entire company car fleet to electric or ultra-low emission hybrid cars by the end of 2023 and are in the process of moving the entire forklift fleet from diesel supply to a more environmentally friendly LPG or electric alternative.
In 2021, we focused on reducing our waste and also ensured the waste we did produce was effectively managed in an ecologically responsible way. The results speak for themselves but also indicate that there is still more we can do. 96% of all waste produced is diverted from landfill despite an increase in product sold. We are very much focused on providing solutions to increase this further. In 2021 we targeted the volume of waste we are responsible for and are actively looking at ways we drive the circular economy of materials that potentially could end up as waste. That drive has seen a further 1% reduction in volume.*
These changes demonstrate JP Corry’s dedication to facilitate an environmentally responsible workplace.
We are proud to have been awarded GOLD in the 2021 Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey by Business in the Community.
Chris Collins, Operations Director at JP Corry said “We are delighted to have achieved Gold in the latest NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey. This is an important aspect of our business and we are pleased that our efforts to achieve a more sustainable approach to working is reflected in this accreditation. We as a team will continue to drive improvements in the time ahead that will deliver a positive environmental impact for our workplace as well as our local communities.”
We have actively engaged with 19 different initiatives across our local communities. These initiatives include the fulfilment of material donation requests, to providing materials and volunteered labour for ‘construction corners’ in schools like Dundela pre-school and Larne and Inver Primary. 24 of our employees provided 45 hours’ worth of participation and commitment in these community volunteering events, a number we hope to increase in 2022 with the easing of Covid 19 restrictions.
A total of 12 charity partners received donations in 2021. These donations were from both internal and external stakeholders of the business and went towards helping local charities across Northern Ireland and Isle of Man.
True sustainability requires human input and buy in and we are only able to produce the above results because of our people. We at JP Corry believe in developing and nurturing our people as people are the most important resource towards a sustainable future. In 2021, we provided 114 training initiatives totalling 783 training hours. We embrace the value of a more diverse workforce and have increased our diversity initiatives by 12% since 2019. Last year we became a signatory to ‘Diversity Mark’ and have applied for Bronze accreditation that is awarded to companies following an assessment process which ensures they have reached the required standard of commitment to advancing Diversity and Inclusion. This was a proud moment for JP Corry as the business strives to create a welcoming workplace and further our commitment to encouraging a diverse and inclusive mind-set in all our decision making and to create an environment where everyone feels they matter. In total, we had 12 diversity and health and wellbeing initiatives delivered in 2021.
In 2022 we will continue to build on the solid foundations we have in place in order to make the world a better home for all.
